Choosing the type of community
There are a variety of community and care types:
Independent Living
Think of this setting as an apartment complex without the tasks and responsibilities of the maintenance and upkeep. This option is available for seniors that are searching for a lifestyle that is full of activities, freedom, and companionship with staff and other residents. Different facilities offer a varying ancillary services, such as medication management, organized activities and social events.
Assisted Living/Personal Care Community
This living arrangement is for anyone needing assistance with activities of daily living (i.e., bathing, dressing, and incontinence, ambulation, monitoring/managing medical equipment, or requiring other types of personal care assistance). An apartment style of community living with 24-hour medical care and attention, as well as medication management, daily games and activities, three meals per day and more.
Alzheimer's/Memory Care
This type of community is designed for the individual diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or Dementia who requires the same level of care provided by an assisted living community, plus, a specially trained and certified staff to protect and ensure the safety and security of the residents. Activities are designed to be appropriate for residents with various stages of cognitive impairment.
